Hayward Police Department (HPD) offers the Police Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB). HPD will accept PELLETB results from any POST-certified test
provider, including South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium (SBRPSTC). The SBRPSTC also offers the test frequently if you are unable to attend the HPD written exam session. The minimum passing T-score for HPD is 46.

For information about the PELLETB, please see the California POST link:

HPD offers the physical agility known as the Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB). HPD will accept WSTB results from the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training
Consortium (SBRPSTC)*.

The minimum passing score for HPD is 384 and a 1.5 mile run in 14 minutes.

The WSTB includes the following components:

1. 99-yard obstacle course
2. 32-foot body drag (165 pounds)
3. Six-foot chain link fence climb
4. Six-foot solid wall climb
5. 500-yard sprint
6. 1.5 mile run

*The South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium (SBRPSTC) offers the test
frequently if you are unable to attend the HPD physical agility exam session.

HPD requires that all police officer applicants pass a computer assessment. Note – this
is not the PELLETB examination.

HPD requires that all police officer applicants pass an oral board interview.

Before you can join HPD, you are required to pass a preliminary background questionnaire administered via Survey Monkey. Once you have successfully passed the testing phases and successfully placed on an eligible list you are then required to pass a background investigation. This includes a polygraph examination, a psychological evaluation and a medical evaluation. You will also be required to
complete a background packet.

Candidates who qualify the Lateral Applicant status enjoy a modified testing process and are exempt from the Written Test (PELLETB) and Physical Agility Test (WSTB).
